International Standard Quality Award 2011

These awards are done to assess a companies current performance level against a reasonable set of guidelines for total quality. A very important step in this pursuit is to first understand your own organizational level followed by a comparison between other companies. The comparison are commonly made based on the number of employees, capital investment, wasted efforts, and any other aspects that a company may measure. The following step is to have managers that would admit that there are other people doing a better job than they are, and are able to handle criticism very well, then send them to visit the companies that are believed to have the superior operations. In short, this award is no cake walk.

Why is this award important you ask? Well during the 1990s, the U.S. General Accounting Office or GAO conducted a research on the relationship between quality management activities, against success and profit rates. What they found was beyond the shadow of a doubt. Companies or organizations which had similar awards outperformed the average companies. They achieved a staggering 362-percent rate of growth, compared to the average organizations, which scored a rate of growth numbering 148-percent. That's right, and remember UNITEN is one of the universities that achieved such an award.

International Standard Quality Award 2011

UNITEN may not be the best university out there, but it is still a good one in terms of quality. This prestigious award proves it. However, there are still some people and unfortunately a few of UNITEN's inhabitants who would tarnish and bad-mouth the reputation of UNITEN. My advise to you reader, is to not listen to them, but listen to this award and the several other awards that UNITEN has rightfully won. Once again I will say that this university is a good university and I know it will achieve even more awards and will only propel itself to even greater heights.

Malaysia Business Leadership Award 2010

UNITEN with the MBLA is able to compete with all the private universities or college in promoting their varsities and with the increasing amount of private university and college in Malaysia, the MBLA will definitely help UNITEN to compete with the other university in attracting quality students.

Bachelor of Computer Science(Software Engineering)(Hons.)

UNITEN offers a postgraduate  program that is "Software Engineering" that can able students to create programming code, software, database and  etc. Software engineering is an engineering discipline that is concerned with all aspects of software production. Software engineering is intended to support professional software development, rather than individual programming. It includes techniques that support program specification, design and evolution.

Software is a computer programs and associated documentation. Software products may be developed for a particular customer or may be developed for a general market. The attributes of  good software is a good software should deliver the required functionality and performance to the user and should be maintainable, dependable and usable. the fundamental software engineering activities are software specification, software development, software validation and software evolution.

The cost of software engineering roughly 60% of software costs are development costs and 40% are testing costs. For custom software, evolution costs often exceed development costs. The courses of software engineering in Uniten are written in table below.

Bachelor of Information Technology (Graphics & Multimedia) (Hons.)

I want talk to about this undergraduate program because it offers an interesting perspective as well as a wide prospect of future jobs. The first thing that comes to mind when hearing "Graphics and Multimedia" is that students that take the course need to be creative, be able to draw impressive graphics, or to be artistic in general. Though there may be some truth in that, it is not 100% correct. First, because this is an IT course and not a full graphics program. Thus, will students will still learn a few things similar to the other IT or CS programs such as subjects related to programming languages, data bases, etc. Secondly, I feel that everyone is an artist, some just work harder than others. There are such things called drawing techniques, theories, and others that are teachable. If it was unteachable, there would be no such thing as drawing classes and art teachers. Another thing I want to point out is about what might happen after graduating from this course. Since you are graduating from Bachelor of Information Technology (Graphics & Multimedia) (Hons.), does that mean that you will still be making graphics and multimedia when working? Not necessarily, but if that pleases you, then do so. As mentioned before, this is an IT course and not a full graphics program. I've actually managed to chat with some of the working graduates from this course. One said that he completely switch to full IT instead of graphical works because it offers a higher pay. When asked if the Graphics and Multimedia course prepared him an IT job, he said with confidence that it did indeed. In conclusion, this program not only offers complete insight on graphics and multimedia, but in information technology as well.

Another aspect I want to talk about is the learning environment that it poses. Let's take a look at the infrastructure first. Almost all the classes are conducted at College of Information Technology or COIT for short. Here is a picture of the college.
COIT
COIT is a relatively new structure complete with facilities such as up to date computers labs, spacious classrooms and lecture halls, adequate and relatively clean bathrooms at every floor, and with it's own Cafe. But the best part is that the college is air-conditioned at every floor and every room. Another thing you can expect is that you will have a relatively laid backed time as compared to, let's say engineering courses. This is due to the fact that one, the lecturers are more encouraging and more inspiring. In my opinion, to excel in this course, you need to be passionate and enjoy what you are doing, just as the lecturers are as they teach. Secondly, I feel that the subjects that you have to take are not that difficult, with some exception such as programming. But hey, programming is way easier than subjects such as calculus that other students have to take. And thirdly, if you are like me, you will actually enjoy and have fun doing some of the lab works and assignments such as creating and drawing pictures, creating animation, developing applications, and etc. So in short, you might have fun and generally have good time when taking this course.

MASTER'S PROGRAMMES STRUCTURE

UNITEN offers postgraduate programmes in engineering, information technology and business. The main purpose of the postgraduate programmes is to pursuit of research and development activities in the areas which have high potential. The programmes are available by research, by coursework and research, and by coursework and project. The types of UNITEN  postgraduate programmes are categorize in three type of mode of study which is Structure A, Structure B and Structure C.

Structure A is by research method which candidates conduct research under academic supervisors and prepare a thesis to fulfill graduation requirement. The type of programmes offered in this structure are Master of Electrical Engineering, Master of Mechanical Engineering, Master of Civil Engineering, Master of Information Technology and Master of Industrial Science. The duration of the whole programmes are divided into Full-Time which minimum one years and maximum three years and for Part-Time are minimum two years and maximum four years.

Structure B is by coursework and research. The distribution between the coursework and dissertation is 50% whereby candidates have to register and pass a certain number of taught courses as part of the graduation requirements. Besides that, candidates required to complete a research project under academic supervisors and prepare a dissertation for the remaining part of the graduation requirement. Programmes that offered under Structure B are Master of Electrical Engineering, Master of Mechanical Engineering and Master of Information Technology. The duration for Structure B are minimum one an half years and maximum three years for Full-Time and minimum two an half years and maximum four years for Part-Time.

Structure C is by coursework plus a project paper. Candidates will have to register and pass a certain number of taught courses as part of the graduation requirements and completing a project and a project report for the graduation requirements. Structure C mostly depend on coursework component which exceeds 80%. The duration of Structure C are the same Structure B for Full-Time which minimum are one an half years and maximum three years and for Part-Time minimum are two an half years and maximum four years.
